A conversation with Lily this week, while at the mall, as we passed a display of shiny zippo lighters.
L: what are those for, Mom?
V: those are lighters, you know - like what we use to light candles. people who smoke cigarettes buy them.
L: so, you'll never buy one?
V: nope. (pause) you think you'll ever smoke a cigarette?
L: i dunno, mom. maybe.
V: oh, that's too bad - since they make you unhealthy and your teeth yellow and your hair stink.
L: oh. then i'll never do that.
mission accomplished.
